About
Jules Silver is an experimental abstract artist from Daytona Beach, Florida. His works have graced the walls of a hotel, select galleries as well as online galleries. He is no stranger to competition and has won a number of awards throughout his career. He approaches his abstract paintings with an air of anticipation and excitement. The process usually begins by applying various layers of gesso then acrylic paints, inks and pastels with a variety of unconventional tools, adding textures and a myriad of found objects.
Jules earned a living in the financial services arena with a passion to paint and create. Through numerous art education courses, studying with several well known local artists and experimenting with various styles and tools he created works that were either political in nature or assemblages with double entendre titles that viewers could relate to. His fascination with worn roads, cracks, fissures and pot holes led to a number of assemblages made of tar, cement, wood, glass, auto parts and found objects. Some of these works were displayed in the Architectural Building for the City of San Diego, The Art Institute of San Diego as well as art fairs in California, Colorado and Florida.
The inspiration for his current works come from studying such well known artists such as Motherwell, Pollock, Rothko, Mondrian, Hirst, Kline and Still to name a few. Use of color or the absence of color and monochromatic patterns used in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s has taken Jules in a new found direction as evidenced by his most current works. He has received several awards and recognition during his painting career including the prized 2017 Best of Show award “Degrees of Abstraction” from the Art League of Daytona Beach, as well as awards from Beaux Arts of Central Florida, Artist Workshop of New Smyrna Beach and several art festivals. His works have also been featured on the cover of a local magazine.
When not painting he is following his other passion, dancing Argentine tango or west coast swing. Jules believes that expressing ones’ self on the dance floor or applying paint to canvas is the truest form of self-expression. He is an active member of Beaux Arts of Central Florida, The Art League of Daytona Beach, The Artist Workshop of New Smyrna Beach and The Hub Gallery on Canal.
